Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost was epic to say the least. If I could sum it up, it would be Le Femme Nikita X Blade = The Night Huntress. This story centers around Catherine better known as Cat or Kitten, a 22yr old woman that has a knack for killing the undead, even though she's halfway in the grave herself(no pun inteded) LOL! Cat is half vampire and half human conceived by her human mother and date rapist vampire dad. She's been on a mission since she was 16yr's old to kill every vampire alive. The reason behind it, is to appease her mom, her mom loves her but at the same time making her atone for the sins of her father. Her mother condones Cat's killing of the species because she absolutely hates vampires and wants nothing but to rid the earth of them, thinking their evil In every way. Cat and her mother live in a small town in a house with her grandparents. So of couse when word gets around that your unwed and pregnant your looked down upon. Never having a real friend and always outcasted by her uniqueness she goes out every night to a bar or club to kill a vampire until one night she runs into a vampire that has disrupted her regular routine on going about how she goes on her kills. She is startled to say the least when she realizes she's back at his place and chained. The vampire that captued her is Bones, a centuries old vampire that bounty hunts and Cat strikes up a deal to help him with his bounties for her release. Cat is very stubborn and it has been imbedded in her that all vampires are evil, even though she has never got to know any of them. She's prejudice to a fault, even though she's half vampire but, as she starts her bounties with Bones and gets to know him one day at a time, she starts to fall for him. He's the only friend she's ever had and of course he is mesmerized by her never before meeting a half human/half vampire. I really like how Jeaniene portrayed the protagonist as a real bad ass and how we see the character mature. I'm also glad that she took the whole falling in love thing at a good pace, it wasn't insta love and it wasn't too slow.
I also like how Cat wasn't defenseless, she was very useful, fighting every battle side by side with her love intrest. Bones was definitely a great addition to the story on helping her overcome her prejudices and becoming her confidant. The author did a great job of spending just the right amount of time on the action and the love scenes, they weren't overly exposed. So of course without a doubt The Night Huntress would make an excellent tv series, we haven't seen a woman action star since the ninja fighting Le Femme Nikita. If I had my casting choice, I would suggest Natalie Dormer for the lead role of Cat, she has just the right amount of sweetness and a edgy at the same time. And who would I have to play Bones you might ask????? That would be the gorgeous Alan Ritchson, I'm dying to see him play a lead role in a hit series. So there you go my little screeners, keep your eyes open, before you know it this will be one of the upcoming tv show coming out this fall.
