The Bourbon Kings by J.R. Ward was nothing like I expected. It was even BETTER!!!! It reminds me of the tv series Dallas, except this family made their money in the Bourbon industry and they live in Charlemont, Kentucky. This story is about The Bradfords, that's the family name from their mother's sake, but the children of the family last name is Baldwine due to their father marrying into the family. The story is centered around the four children who are well in to their 30's, Edward, Maxwell, Tullane, and Virginia Baldwine. There is soooo much to tell, a lot of drama, believe me. This series starts off with the youngest son Lane flying in from NY after receiving a disturbing phone call about one of his family members. After two years of being away from his hometown he walks right back in where he left off, except for the girl he is in love with him, hates him, and he has a wife that lives on the family's property that he absolutely despises. It seems the focus point for the first book of this series is the relationship between Lane Baldwine and Lizzie King. Lizzie King is the head gardener of the family's estate which is called Easterly. The house is a landmark in Kentucky and apart of its history dating back to the 1700's. Lizzie is Lane's first love and they ended on horrible terms, so while he is back in town, he's determined to make up for lost time while Lizzie is determined to avoid him at all costs but that seems futile compared to all the drama that unfolds and causing them to have to stick together to figure things out. Lizzie is reluctant and Lane is just glad to have her speaking to him, but there are bigger problems to be handled at Easterly. Lane trying to get a divorce from his wife becomes trivial, all the lies and deceit that she has bestowed and threatning the family's name, so she can continue to live off of them, and then you have daddy dearest throwing in more complications that Lane has no choice but to do his own little investigation on. There's the oldest son Edward who is too embarrased to be seen in public and wants nothing to do with his family and lives on ranch far away from Easterly. You have the youngest and the baby girl of the family Virginia, she gets around a lot, and what I mean by get around, you know how guys are playboys, well she's a play girl and everyone know's it, she also has a 16yr old daughter that no one knows who the baby father is. And then you have Maxwell that has not made his debut yet, but what we do know is that he's been MIA for the last two years. You also have their mother that's been held up in her room for 3yrs in a daze from all the heavy medication she's on.
J.R. Ward made this soap opera something to look forward to, and has laid a great foundation for this series, it’s a behind the scenes look on the lifestyle of the rich, the southern, and the famous, so what I am saying is she tells the good, the bad, and the oh so ugly. So without further a do I must congratulate her because this will become a tv series next fall on NBC, just less than a month that her book made a debut, they announced that this book was going to be made into a television series. THIS ROCKS BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!! I'm looking forward it, Empire's executive producer David Rambo will write the adaptation, so it will defintely be great. He's one of the people that has made the show Empire great so were guaranteed to get our money's worth with this show. So please everyone be on the lookout and watch this show, because I know I will. My mood SUPER EXCITED :)
