First Grave on the right by Darynda Jones is a phenomenal story, by the first page I was hooked. This one will definitely make it to the television as a series and would also be syndicated if I ever have anything to do with it. This story is about Charlotte Davidson a.ka. Charley and her abilities as a Grim Reaper. But other than that she lives a pretty extraordinary life LOL! Charley works as a private investigator and also helps with cases at the Police Department in New Mexico, where her Uncle Bob works as a homicide detective, and of course he is the lead homicide detective, he couldn't be anything else with a niece who can speak to the deceased victims. While everyone doesn't know or understand her abilities, her uncle, father, and best friend are very supportive. Charley's life is full of excitement, and I not only love the mystery of this series but the fact that it is also funny, that Charley has a great sense of humor, and that this book has a very well written character development. The series starts off with Charley finishing up one of her own private cases when she is asked to help her Uncle Bob with a homicide. Charley is anything but the stereotypical Grim Reaper, she's funny, witty, and feisty and least of all scary, she doesn't collect souls, she's a portal that helps the deceased cross to the other side. I like the fact that we are learning Charley's abilities as she learns them too, it makes you feel as if your on the journey with her, instead of being on the outside looking in. Charley doesn't know the full extent on what she is able to do and how she is able to do it, but as she is solving mysteries in the real world she is solving mysteries in her own supernatural one. Charley has a knack for finding trouble and her life is in danger on more than one occasion in this story, she has had too many close calls. On top of everything thing else in her life she thinks she's going crazy because she keeps having these steamy dreams that feel all too real to be left to the imagination. Charley has a lot going on in her life and the fact that she has a mystery lover that she can only see in her dreams doesn't help much. This story is invigorating, and will keep you on your toes til the very end, making you want more and this is only in the first book. I feel it would be a big, long running hit on tv, and if I could compare a successful show to this book series, I think the tv show Supernatural wouldn't be a bad comparison. Everyone please get a copy of this book now like its the last copy in the store because this something your never going to want to put down.
