The story starts out with action, Aurora fighting a demon trying to escape his clutches, only to run into her neighbor and unbeknownst to her just saved her life. She just moved back to the town she was raised in with her family, attends a new high school, and trys to reconnect with her old friends……….well kind of. Aurora is constantly finding herself in trouble and is forced to tell the Hex Boys her secret that she can see demons and knows that they can too, and are the only ones that are qualified to protect her. Well they provide their assistance, so everything should be all well right? Notttt, its only getting started. The demons are actually after Aurora, they keep calling her the Divinicus Nex, and she has no idea what that means or why the demons keep coming after her, but knows at all costs she needs to keep that Divinicus Nex part from the Hex Boys. The banter between all of them is really entertaining, and of course she has to have a love interest and he is the smoking hot(metaphorically & literally) Ayden, and their chemistry is off the charts, if either of them are ever willing to admit it, but of course death defying missions always seem to get in the way.
I like the authors unique dynamic as a mother & daughter duo, they did an amazing job co-writing this book together, and I also liked how different it was from other YA books, Auorora wasn't the only child and her parents weren't dead or missing forcing her to live with some relative she barely knew. She had a big family, she had a mother, father, 14yo brother and sister twins, a 5yo sister, and a 1yo brother. They were your All-American Family, dad was a doctor and mom owned a flower shop, it was nice to see a complete family that got along and have a regular, average, loving, and caring interaction with each other. I also like that she's fighting demons and sending them back to the underworld, this story has so many layers, and I can't wait until I read the rest of the series, so many plots and twists and turns, you will absolutely love this book, and it will definitely make for great TV, mark my words people. This will definitely be a top competitor with the likes of Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, & the Originals.
